About Us

We’re a small local group focused on providing food insecure children with weekend meals.

We founded Agape Meals for Kids in the fall of 2021, as the coronavirus pandemic continued to drag on and disproportionately impact children living with food insecurity.

Children are receiving school meals during the week, but there were no weekend food programs for them. Many of these children left school each Friday, knowing their next meal wouldn’t come until Monday when they were back in school.

Everyone agrees that children shouldn’t go hungry. Period.

Agape Meals for Kids fundraises and collects non-perishable food donations throughout the week. Our volunteers meet to pack backpacks with enough food to feed each child with meals, snacks, milk, and juice for the weekend.

Then, we deliver these backpacks to schools where they are distributed at the end of the school day on Friday

We’re people who felt compelled to take action to address the very serious problem of childhood hunger right here on Long Island.

We know that these backpacks are making a big difference in children’s lives. And we want to do more. We hope that one day, food insecurity and childhood hunger in America will be eliminated. Until that day, we’ll continue to provide backpacks of food to Long Island children who live with food insecurity.

We often get asked what our name means. “Agape” (Pronounced agápē/αγάπη) in the Greek language translates to the highest form of love. It is love as an action. It takes hope, sacrifice, courage and commitment. This is the kind of love that Agape Meals wants to share every day.

We believe that doing good and being a good person are at the heart of everything. The effort you can make to change the lives of hungry children will change you in ways you cannot imagine.

We are 100% volunteer, NO ONE EVER gets paid and 100% of ALL donations go directly to purchasing food for the program.

Agape Meals for Kids is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization and donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law. Please consult your tax advisor regarding specific questions about your deductions.
